Which ferry should you take from Naples to Ischia: companies, times and prices?

Two kinds of boat make the crossing. Hydrofoils are the fast boats, and they carry passengers only. Alicost, Alilauro, Snav and Caremar all run them. Caremar and Medmar also run ferries, the slower boats that take cars, motorcycles and trucks. Hydrofoils suit a trip with a light bag and a wish to arrive quickly. Ferries suit a trip with a vehicle or a tighter budget.

  • SNAV hydrofoil, Naples Beverello to Casamicciola: 45 minutes · daily all year round · no car
  • Alilauro hydrofoil, Ischia to Beverello: €18.90 · no car
  • Alilauro hydrofoil, Beverello to Forio: €20.10 · no car
  • Alilauro hydrofoil, Mergellina to Ischia: €18.90 · no car
  • Caremar ship, Ischia to Naples: €11.50 · car yes
  • Caremar hydrofoil, Ischia to Naples: €16.80 · no car
  • Caremar ship, Pozzuoli to Ischia: about 60 minutes · €8.70 · car yes
  • Medmar ferry, Ischia to Pozzuoli or Naples: €11.30 · car yes

For the shortest crossing, take a hydrofoil. With a car, take a Caremar or Medmar ferry. On a budget, the Caremar ship from Pozzuoli has the lowest fare listed. These are standard adult fares. Children pay less (Alilauro lists €12.90 on the Beverello and Mergellina routes, Medmar €6.40 for ages 4 to 12), and island residents pay less still.

Caremar and Medmar ferries take motor vehicles, motorcycles and trucks. Hydrofoils from Alicost, Alilauro, Snav and Caremar take passengers only. Mergellina has hydrofoils only, so a car can’t go from there. Pozzuoli port is the one recommended for anyone reaching Ischia by car, and only ferries leave from it. Departure day: where does the ferry leave from and arrive in Ischia?

Naples has several departure points. Ferry connections to the Gulf islands have moved to the ferry terminal at Porto di Massa. Pozzuoli has ferries only, and Mergellina has hydrofoils only.

Ischia has three commercial ports: Ischia Porto, Casamicciola and Forio. At Ischia Porto dock the Medmar and Caremar ferries, from Porta di Massa and Pozzuoli, plus the Alilauro and Caremar hydrofoils. At Casamicciola dock the Caremar and Medmar ferries and the SNAV hydrofoils. Forio takes hydrofoils only, and only Alilauro calls there, from Naples Beverello. Pick the boat that lands nearest your hotel.
