Where to go in Sardinia in February

Cagliari

The city has a tourist office on the ground floor of the Town Hall, at via Roma 145. February afternoons of 59°F (15°C) suit walks through its parks and a visit to the Castle of San Michele.

Barumini

Su Nuraxi di Barumini is a UNESCO World Heritage site and, per the Barumini foundation, open every day of the year. One ticket covers Su Nuraxi, Casa Zapata and the Giovanni Lilliu Centre, so it works as a full morning.

Asinara

Asinara National Park sits on the northwestern tip of Sardinia and has free admission. Boats leave from Porto Nuovo at Stintino and from Porto Torres, so choose one of the two ports and get there before the day’s crossings.

Olbia

Olbia has a daytime high near 59°F (15°C) in February and about six rainy days. It makes a base for a mix of museum and outdoor time.

Tharros

The ancient city lies in the Sinis landscape, between the sea and the ponds, and offers guided tours. Phoenician colonists founded it at the end of the 8th century BC. A dry mid-day suits the open site.

What to do in Sardinia in February

Su Nuraxi and Casa Zapata in Barumini

Su Nuraxi can only be seen on a guided tour. Tours leave every 30 minutes and last about an hour. Casa Zapata and the Giovanni Lilliu Centre each have a 30-minute guided tour, also leaving every 30 minutes.

Casa Zapata is a 16th-century palace with a nuraghe under its floor, so it makes a good indoor stop if a shower comes through. Wear comfortable clothing and non-slip shoes, as the site advises. Tours are offered in Italian, English and French.

Asinara’s trails

The park covers five thousand hectares. Visitors explore its trails by mountain bike, on horseback, in an off-road vehicle or by tourist train. Admission is free.

The Asinara donkey is the symbol of the park. The west coast plunges with sea stacks, while the east slopes gently with sand and rocks. A cool 59°F (15°C) afternoon is comfortable for riding or walking.

Tharros by the sea

Tharros was abandoned in 1070, and the area now has guided tours and a bookshop. The site is open to the sea and the ponds, so a dry, calm day is the better choice.

Bring a layer, because nights fall to 41°F (5°C) and the evening cools quickly.

Parks and museums in Cagliari

Monte Urpinu Park suits strolls and picnics, with its main entrance on Via Pietro Leo. Monte Claro Park has paths for walking and jogging and a main entrance on via Cadello.

The Castle of San Michele hosts exhibitions and lectures. Nuragica, a multimedia museum experience on the Nuragic people, is at via Roma 191. Both are easy fallbacks for a wet day.

Is Sardinia busy in February?

Capoterra’s tourist tax began on February 1, 2026. It is charged per person and per night, and local rates are set by each municipality.

Minors under 14 are exempt in Capoterra, and under 12 in Sardara.

Can you swim in Sardinia in February?
