How much are tickets to the Pantheon?
- Full price: 7.00 euros · entry to the Pantheon · adults
- Reduced: 2.00 euros · entry to the Pantheon · ages 18 to 25
- Free: under 18, residents of the Municipality of Rome, first Sunday of each month, and during mass
Entry is only with an official ticket. Tickets are sold on the Musei Italiani portal, in the app, and on site at the ticket offices and automatic machines.
Visits run in order of arrival, and the ticket gives no skip-the-line access. Free days see heavy crowds, so expect a busier room on the first Sunday of the month. On that day the evening slot is free too, with free tickets collected on site without booking.
In August, evening tickets are sold through the app, the Musei Italiani platform and the Pantheon ticket offices.
What are the opening hours of the Pantheon?
The Pantheon is closed on December 25 and January 1, except for special openings.
- Daily: opens 9 a.m. · closes 7 p.m. · last entry 6:30 p.m.
- August evenings, every day except Thursday: opens 7 p.m. · closes 11 p.m. · last entry and online ticket 10:30 p.m.
The evening ticket office on site stays open until 10 p.m.
When is the best time to visit the Pantheon?
Half an hour is enough, and an hour gives more satisfaction. A typical visit lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
The ticket-office queue clears in five to fifteen minutes, even in high season. The most crowded time is around 1 p.m. between May and August, and each time slot admits at most 1,200 people. Piazza della Rotonda will be crowded too. Arriving at 9 a.m. or in the late afternoon, before the 6:30 p.m. last entry, avoids that peak.
August afternoons reach a high of 89°F (32°C), and July reaches 88°F (31°C). In August the evening opening from 7 to 11 p.m. gives another way to see the building outside the afternoon heat. Skip Thursdays, when there’s no evening opening.
How to get to the Pantheon
The nearest metro station is Spagna, about 17 minutes on foot. Barberini is 20 minutes away. The most useful bus stop is Largo di Torre Argentina, six minutes south of the Pantheon.
A BIT ticket costs 1.50 euros and is valid for 100 minutes. The Roma 24 Hour Ticket costs 8.50 euros. Children up to age 10 travel free with a paying adult.
What to see at the Pantheon
The Pantheon is also the Basilica of Santa Maria ad Martyres. The original structure was built in 27 to 25 BC by Agrippa. It was converted to a church in 609 and rebuilt under Hadrian, between 118 and 125 AD. The dome is the largest unreinforced dome ever built. It measures 142 feet (43 meters) in diameter, equal to its height.
There’s no set route inside, because it is a single circular room. That makes the visit easy to plan: walk the circle at your own pace and look up at the dome.
Is the Pantheon wheelchair accessible?
Visitors with disabilities or reduced mobility enter by the external ramp on the Via della Minerva side, to the left of the building. They shouldn’t join the queue. There’s no cloakroom.
What else to see near the Pantheon
Santa Maria sopra Minerva is directly behind the Pantheon. Bernini’s elephant stands in the square in front, and a work by Michelangelo is inside. San Luigi dei Francesi is five minutes in the opposite direction and houses three works by Caravaggio.
In the square itself, the large fountain is by Giacomo della Porta, from 1575. The Egyptian obelisk on top was added in 1711.
