Sayulita, in the municipality of Bahia de Banderas, has been a Pueblo Magico since December 3, 2015, renewed in August 2021. The town is settled, so the date is the open question: November’s dry afternoons at 94.3°F against October’s rain and December’s cooler nights.

Every figure here comes from Mexico’s national weather service (SMN, part of CONAGUA): 1991-2020 normals from station 18021 at Las Gaviotas, about 19 miles east across Bahia de Banderas. It is an official station, the nearest one for this stretch of coast, but Sayulita’s own beach is not separately measured. Read the numbers as the regional climate. In November the average high is 94.3°F, the average low 66.4°F, and the month’s rain adds up to 0.95 inches.
SMN counts 2.8 days of measurable rain in an average November, so fewer than three days in the month need a plan B. The total is under an inch. SMN does not publish its threshold for a rain day, so treat the count as SMN’s own and do not set it against a U.S. count.

Yes, you can swim, and comfortably. The water is 16.5 degrees warmer than the average night air of 66.4°F, so a dip after sundown feels mild rather than bracing, and a swim needs no wetsuit.
Our sources carry no wind or swell figures for November, so we cannot say how big the waves run. The town beach is a well-known beginner-friendly surf break, while the point break and river-mouth beaches nearby draw more experienced surfers. Check a surf report the morning you go.
How busy is Sayulita in November? Crowds and prices
We found no occupancy or room-rate series for Sayulita, so we do not rank November against other months on price. The calendar gives a marker: November follows October, when 7.20 inches of rain fell, and it comes before the Fiestas Patronales de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, listed by SECTUR for December 1-12.
We have no booking lead-time data, so we name no number of weeks. Two dates from SECTUR’s calendar are worth checking against any reservation: November 1-2 (Dia de Muertos observances) and November 22 (Surf Open Sayulita). We could not verify how either affects availability. Flights land at Puerto Vallarta International Airport or Tepic International Airport (TPQ), about an hour east of the coast.
Nayarit sets its lodging tax at 5% (Impuesto Sobre Hospedaje, Article 62 of the state’s Ley de Hacienda, confirmed by the 2026 Ley de Ingresos). We could not verify whether quoted nightly rates include it, so ask before you pay.
The one line where paying more changes the month is the room. With afternoon highs averaging 94.3°F and nights at 66.4°F, a room that stays cool in the afternoon matters more than a view. Ask about air conditioning before you book.
Things to do in Sayulita in November
With October’s rain gone, November is the month for outdoor plans in a row. SECTUR’s calendar also puts the Surf Open Sayulita on November 22 and Dia de Muertos observances on November 1-2. Festival dates can slide from one year to the next, so confirm them locally.
Islas Marietas National Park sits on the same stretch of coast as the boat departures. Its Playa del Amor charges a 125-peso CONANP entrance fee and opens Wednesday through Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., which rules out Monday and Tuesday. SECTUR also lists the Campamento Tortuguero Sayulita, a sea-turtle camp, among the town’s official attractions. We could not verify its November schedule, so call ahead.
The change from October is at night. The average low falls 5.6 degrees, from 72.0°F to 66.4°F, while the average high slips only 0.9 degrees, from 95.2°F to 94.3°F. The sea drops from 87.6°F to 82.9°F, still warm for a swim before or after a boat trip.
We found no admission price for the turtle camp, the Dia de Muertos observances or the Surf Open, so we cannot call any of them free. The only place fee we can quote is Playa del Amor’s 125 pesos.
Sayulita itinerary for November
Day one follows the heat. Spend early morning on the town beach, where the break suits beginners. Move to shade through the hottest afternoon hours, when highs average 94.3°F. Return to the water in the late afternoon, when the sea holds 82.9°F, and leave the sand before dusk, since the day is only 11 hours 11 minutes long.
Day two goes to Islas Marietas if it falls on a Wednesday through Sunday, when Playa del Amor is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On a Monday or Tuesday, or if a shower rolls in (2.8 days in an average month), swap in a call to the turtle camp or a slow day on the beach.

Rain moves the most: 7.20 inches and 11.8 rain days in October, 0.95 inches and 2.8 days in November, 0.37 inches and 0.9 days in December. Highs barely budge, from 95.2°F to 94.3°F and then 91.6°F. Lows fall 5.6 degrees into November and 4.7 degrees more into December. The air figures share station 18021 and the 1991-2020 period, while the sea figures come from the marine API for 2015-2024.
Shift earlier, to October, and the sea gains 4.7 degrees to 87.6°F, but rain returns at 7.20 inches over 11.8 days. Shift later, to December, and rain nearly vanishes (0.37 inches over 0.9 days) and afternoons ease to 91.6°F. The sea gives up 3.1 degrees to 79.8°F and nights drop to 61.7°F.
Is November a good time to visit Sayulita?
Yes for anyone who wants dry days (0.95 inches, 2.8 rain days) and a swimmable 82.9°F sea. No for anyone who dislikes 94.3°F afternoons. Whatever the month, read the U.S. State Department advisory before booking: it rates Nayarit at Level 2, ‘Exercise increased caution’ (checked Sep 30, 2026).
If the heat is the deal-breaker, choose December, with afternoons at 91.6°F and 0.37 inches of rain. It also overlaps the Fiestas Patronales de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, December 1-12 on SECTUR’s calendar, and the dates may shift.
