So April is the last of the spring months where a trail at ten in the morning and a table outside at nine at night both work, provided you packed a jacket for the second one.

Every figure here comes from the NOAA NCEI 1991-2020 monthly normals for station USW00023169, the thermometer at Las Vegas McCarran Airport on the valley floor. April’s normal high reads 78.5°F, the normal low 56.9°F, the month’s precipitation 0.20 inches. That instrument measures the middle of the basin. The open desert around the city and the Spring Mountains above it both run cooler at night, so a 5 a.m. reading at a trailhead sits under the airport number.
Two tenths of an inch spread over thirty days is close to nothing, and the day counts say it again in another currency. In an average April, 0.5 days record at least 0.10 inch, so one measurable wet day shows up roughly every other year. Days with an inch or more come in at 0.0, a rounding rather than a promise. A rain jacket in the suitcase is insurance you will most likely carry home unused.

The afternoon figure is the one that sells April to visitors. The night figure is the one they underpack for.
Before nine, long sleeves earn their place, and more so with wind. By eleven that same shirt is too much, and by two the sun is doing full desert work on any skin left out. After sunset the air slides back toward the 56.9°F night normal, so anyone sitting still outdoors, at a patio table or waiting for a show, wants a layer within reach.

April falls in the spring stretch between the winter convention calendar and the summer heat, and pleasant weather brings company. The data behind these normals is weather data, with no monthly hotel series for Las Vegas in it, so you will get no cheapest-month claim from us.
Fix the dates before you shop the room type. Midweek and weekend prices diverge more in this city than in most, and an April Tuesday carries the same 78.5°F as an April Saturday, so a flexible traveler has room to move (that rate behavior is editorial, not measured). If your dates are locked, compare the same room across two sites and read the cancellation line before anything else.
Clark County levies a lodging tax, and most Strip resorts add a nightly resort fee on top of the advertised room rate. April is the month when the country around Las Vegas stays usable all day. A 78.5°F normal high is a hiking number. Add 13 hours 11 minutes of daylight on the 15th and a full outdoor day fits without setting an alarm for dawn.
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, west of the city, is the April default, with a one-way scenic drive and trailheads off it, plus the Calico Hills scrambles for shorter legs. Mount Charleston and the Spring Mountains rise well above the valley to the northwest. Lake Mead sits east. Downtown, Fremont Street and the Strip need no car at all. The rock at Red Rock is the same rock in July. April changes the air above it: 78.5°F instead of a triple-digit afternoon, and a 56.9°F night normal that keeps an eight o’clock start pleasant rather than urgent. Elevation stacks on top. The NOAA thermometer reads the valley floor at the airport, while the Spring Mountains run cooler at night, so plan a Mount Charleston outing several degrees colder than the number on the airport forecast.
The outdoor free shows work better in April than in midsummer, the Bellagio fountains and the Fremont Street canopy among them, because standing still outside at 78.5°F costs you nothing in stamina. March runs 71.1°F by day and 50.5°F at night, with 0.42 inches of rain and 1.3 days at a tenth of an inch or more. April roughly halves both rain figures and lifts the afternoon 7.4°F. May goes further in the same direction: 88.5°F and 66.1°F, with 0.07 inches and 0.2 rain days. Across those ten weeks the afternoon normal climbs 17.4°F while measurable rain all but disappears. No water temperature exists in our source set for any of the three.
Shift four weeks earlier and you gain cooler canyon afternoons at 71.1°F, plus nights at 50.5°F that make an outdoor dinner a coat affair. You also accept more than twice April’s rain. Shift four weeks later and you gain warm evenings, at the price of a 88.5°F afternoon that shortens every hike and makes midday a matter of shade and air conditioning. Is April a good time to visit Las Vegas?
For anyone planning to leave the Strip, April is a straight yes: 78.5°F afternoons, 0.20 inches of rain across the month, daylight to 7:16 p.m. For a pool-first trip it argues less well. Mornings begin near the 56.9°F night normal, so poolside April is an afternoon activity. Travelers tied to school calendars should also check their dates against spring break weeks, which our sources do not date.
If the answer is no, May is the swap: 88.5°F days, 66.1°F nights and rain down to 0.07 inches, which buys warm evenings outdoors and costs you the middle of the day on any trail. Going the other direction, March keeps afternoons at 71.1°F for people who want the canyons cool, against 0.42 inches of rain and 1.3 measurable rain days.
Of the three months on the table, only April pairs an afternoon normal under 80°F with less than a quarter inch of rain, and that combination is what lets a hiking morning and a Strip evening live in the same day.
