July is the valley at full output. The airport thermometer averages 104.5°F in the afternoon and 82.0°F at its coolest hour, the sun is up for 14 hours 25 minutes on the 15th, and the whole month’s rainfall adds up to 0.38 inches. Those four numbers reorganize a Las Vegas trip more than any hotel choice will.

What July takes away is the middle of the day outdoors. What it gives back is light at both ends: a usable hour before seven in the morning and a warm sidewalk at nine at night. Every figure here comes from two places: the 1991-2020 monthly normals published by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information for station USW00023169, and sunrise and sunset times computed for July 15. Room rates, occupancy and admission prices are not in that data, so no month gets called the cheapest or the busiest below.

Las Vegas weather in July: average highs, lows and rain days

NOAA NCEI puts the July average high at 104.5°F and the average low at 82.0°F, from the 1991-2020 normals for station USW00023169. That thermometer sits on the valley floor at Las Vegas McCarran Airport, minutes from the resort corridor. The open desert around the valley and the Spring Mountains above it both run cooler than the Strip after dark, so read the normals below as a valley reading rather than as the temperature wherever you happen to be standing.

Rain barely registers: 0.38 inches for the entire month, and 1.0 day in an average July records 0.10 inch or more. One day in thirty-one, in other words, puts enough water on the ground to notice. Nothing in a July packing list needs to be waterproof, and a canceled outdoor plan this month is almost always a heat decision rather than a weather one.

The gap between those two normals is 22.5°F, and it lands entirely in the hot half of the thermometer. Pack for shade rather than for cold: a hat, a bottle you can refill, shoes that handle hot rock, and one light layer for interiors kept at office temperature. A fleece for the evening has no job in a Las Vegas July.

The average high is 104.5°F, the average low 82.0°F, and the 22.5°F between them is a monthly mean, not a ceiling: individual afternoons run above it and a handful run below. Las Vegas has no coast, and no water temperature for July was available to us, so none is quoted here. A hotel pool is whatever the property sets it to.

In practice, six in the morning is the coolest hour you will experience awake, and it is already in the low eighties. By one in the afternoon the pavement is doing its own radiating. Dress once for the whole day: shorts and a shirt you can soak, a cap, sunglasses, and the layer that only comes out inside a casino floor or a cinema.

No monthly rate series, occupancy figure or visitor count for Las Vegas was available to us, so July gets no ranking against the other eleven months on price, and no claim about where it sits in the demand cycle. What is measured is the thermometer, and July is the hottest of the three summer months compared below, 1.7°F above August and 5.1°F above June on the average high.

Lead time works the same way: without a booking-curve dataset, any number of weeks we gave you would be invented. Two comparisons cost nothing and do real work. Price the same room midweek and on a Saturday before committing, and reserve a car early if the plan includes Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire at dawn, because a July morning without wheels is a July morning spent indoors.

Two lines sit on a Las Vegas bill beyond the nightly rate: the resort fee charged by the property, and the county room tax. Neither rate is in our data, so no amount is quoted here. Spending more changes exactly one thing in July, and it has nothing to do with the room. Things to do in Las Vegas in July

July’s asset is the tail of the day. With sunset at 7:59 PM and a night that averages 82.0°F, an outdoor dinner at nine or a swim at ten needs no layer and no planning. That warm-late evening is the one thing the heat hands back, and it is why a July day runs split shift: outside early, inside from late morning, outside again once the sun is down.

The outdoor names worth the alarm clock are Red Rock Canyon and its scenic loop, Valley of Fire State Park northeast of town, Hoover Dam on the Arizona line, and the Spring Mountains above the valley for altitude rather than desert. In town, Fremont Street and the Strip stay walkable after dark. No admission price or opening hour for any of them was available to us, so none is quoted: check each operator before you drive out.

The rock does not change with the season, the air does. June’s average high is 99.4°F and July’s is 104.5°F, a 5.1°F step that pushes a canyon walk from a mid-morning outing to a start before seven. Same trail, same red sandstone, different departure time. The Spring Mountains are the exception, running cooler than the valley floor after dark by the same logic that makes the airport reading a valley number.

On the free side, our data carries no admission list for July, so nothing indoors gets promised here as no-cost. What is free is the hour after 5:34 AM and the hour after 7:59 PM: the sidewalk, the desert road pullouts, the pool deck at your own hotel. Day one starts before the thermometer does. Up at five, on the road by 5:34 AM as the sun comes up, and at Red Rock Canyon for the loop and a short walk by six. Back in town by ten, before the day heads toward 104.5°F. Midday belongs indoors: a long lunch, a museum, a pool with shade. Out again at seven for the Strip, with the light going at 7:59 PM and the sidewalk still warm at ten.

Day two repeats the shape with a longer drive: Valley of Fire or Hoover Dam on an early start, town again before noon, and the evening on foot around Fremont Street. If the weather turns, it turns fast and rarely: one day in an average July records 0.10 inch or more, and a desert storm closes a canyon road faster than it soaks you. Swap the drive for an indoor afternoon and take the drive the next morning.

Las Vegas in July vs June and August

July tops the three on both ends: 104.5°F against August’s 102.8°F and June’s 99.4°F by day, and 82.0°F against 80.6°F and 75.8°F at night. Rainfall moves in the same direction, from a near-dry June at 0.04 inches and 0.1 rain days to 0.38 inches and 1.0 rain day in July. There is no sea in this comparison and no water temperature to put in it, in any of the three months.

Shift four weeks back to June and you gain 6.2°F off the night and a month that barely records rain, and you lose almost nothing else. Shift four weeks forward to August and the afternoon drops 1.7°F, the night 1.4°F, with 0.7 rain days instead of 1.0. Neither move buys comfort at noon: all three months are planned around shade.

Is July a good time to visit Las Vegas?

Yes, for anyone whose trip already lives indoors and in water: shows, restaurants, casino floors, a pool deck at nine at night. Yes too for early risers willing to be at a trailhead by six. No for families with small children who will be crossing hot pavement at two in the afternoon, and no for anyone planning a full day of desert hiking, because 104.5°F does not negotiate with an itinerary.

If the answer is no, June is the closest fix, with nights 6.2°F cooler at 75.8°F and 0.04 inches of rain across the whole month, and it is the same city on the same calendar. Anything beyond that is a bigger move, and the month-by-month verdict is where the cooler half of the year gets compared properly.

Of the three months here, July holds the warmest nights at 82.0°F, and that is the trade: a 9 PM swim or a midnight walk needs nothing but a towel.
